Workplace Training (Automotive industries)   Check out our Automotive Myth series -

It’s often assumed that an individual staff member’s personal experience of child car safety seats can carry them through in the workplace.

An assumption that meeting your personal perspective will naturally satisfy your client’s perspective can bring a public relation issue to your counter.

The ‘how something is done’ is important of course, but the ‘perception of what is done’ is paramount in satisfying peace of mind.

ACRI’s program ‘E’ is aimed at staff exposed to child car safety seats during their work day as for:

  • Remove and replacement purposes
  • Swapping to a Loan car
  • Swapping over to a new vehicle from a trade in.

ACRI Automotive Myth Series:

Myth #1:

“We manage Child Safety Seats by not re-installing them after a service”

Sadly, that’s not managing them, that’s ignoring them and as such the clients’ needs have also been ignored.
Also consider the bigger picture the client may be thinking of?

‘How can I be confident for a service centre to ensure that my brakes, steering and airbag systems are operating reliably if they can’t fit a baby seat for me?’

Specialised Safety Seat training not only helps eliminate doubts’, it improves client satisfaction through a total, not part service paradigm.

Myth #2

“Staff need to be licensed / accredited to fit a child safety seat. So, they can’t get into trouble with clients”.

Absolutely not - incorrect on both counts. No business or individual can manage a risk that they are unaware of. A Safety Seat may be installed 100% correctly and yet still be the subject of a public relations nightmare at your customer service counter.

Safety Seat awareness training helps eliminate disputes and improves customer satisfaction by dealing with each client’s expectations constructively.

Myth #3

“One of our technicians has children, so he knows how to ‘fit’ Child safety seats”.

Personal experience and decisions made over a child of our own has little to do with satisfying client expectation over their child’s safety. Passenger safety is not rocket science, but the Child Safety Seat environment is complicated, mostly derived from misguided perceptions and assigning of responsibility. With the right insights it’s much easier than many would believe possible.

Myth #4

Show us how to fit ‘a child safety seat’, so that we can satisfy our client needs”

Child Safety Seats are a little like tyres, in as much that there are endless varieties. Just because you could fit a 195/70R14 tyre onto a rim that should take a 205/70R14 tyre doesn’t mean that it’s correct.

That’s a mistake that some would not notice until it’s too late. Putting pieces of a puzzle together accurately, avoids creating a dangerous and or reputation damaging situation.

Learn to recognise what the puzzle is and deal with ‘Child Safety Seats’ responsibly.
